【摘要】:Thisclassificationestablishescategoriesofcoalbasedongradationalpropertiesthatdependprincipallyonthedegreeofmetamorphismtowhichthecoalwassubjectedwhileburied.Thesecategoriesindicaterangesofphysicalandchemicalcharacteristicsthatareusefulinmakingbroadestimatesofthebehaviorofcoalinmining,preparation,anduse.1.1Thisstandardcoverstheclassificationofcoalsbyrank,thatis,accordingtotheirdegreeofmetamorphism,orprogressivealteration,inthenaturalseriesfromlignitetoanthracite.1.2Thisclassificationisapplicabletocoalsthatarecomposedmainlyofvitrinite.Note1Coalsrichininertiniteorliptinite(exinite),orboth,cannotbeproperlyclassifiedbecause,inthosemacerals,thepropertiesthatdeterminerank(calorificvalue,volatilematter,andagglomeratingcharacter)differgreatlyfromthoseofvitriniteinthesamecoal.Oftensuchcoalscanberecognizedbymegascopicexamination.InNorthAmerica,thesecoalsaremostlynonbandedvarietiesthatcontainonlyasmallproportionofvitrainandconsistmainlyofattritalmaterials.Thedegreeofmetamorphismofnonbandedandothervitrinite-poorcoalscanbeestimatedbydeterminingtheclassificationpropertiesofisolatedorconcentratedvitrinitefractions,orbydeterminingthereflectanceofthevitrinite(seeTestMethodD2798andAppendixX1ofthisclassification).However,intheuseofthesevitrinite-poorcoals,somepropertiesnormallyassociatedwithrank,suchasrheology,combustibility,hardness,andgrindability(aswellastherankdeterminingproperties)maydiffersubstantiallyfromthoseofvitrinite-richcoalsofthesamedegreeofmetamorphism.Theprecisionoftheclassificationofimpurecoalmaybeimpairedbytheeffectoflargeamountsofmineralmatteronthedeterminationofvolatilematterandcalorificvalue,andontheircalculationtothemineral-matter-freebasis.1.3ThevaluesstatedinBritishthermalunitsperpoundaretoberegardedasthestandard.TheSIequivalentsofBritishthermalunitsperpoundareapproximate.AllothervaluesinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.
