【摘要】:Thistestsystemhasadvantagesincertainrespectsovertheuseofstaticloadingsystemsinthemeasurementofglassandglass-ceramics:3.1.1Onlyminutestressesareappliedtothespecimen,thusminimizingthepossibilityoffracture.3.1.2Theperiodoftimeduringwhichstressisappliedandremovedisoftheorderofhundredsofmicroseconds,makingitfeasibletoperformmeasurementsattemperatureswheredelayedelasticandcreepeffectsproceedonamuch-shortenedtimescale,asinthetransformationrangeofglass,forinstance.Thetestissuitablefordetectingwhetheramaterialmeetsspecifications,ifcognizanceisgiventooneimportantfact:glassandglass-ceramicmaterialsaresensitivetothermalhistory.Thereforethethermalhistoryofatestspecimenmustbeknownbeforethemodulicanbeconsideredintermsofspecifiedvalues.Materialspecificationsshouldincludeaspecificthermaltreatmentforalltestspecimens.FIG.1BlockDiagramofApparatus1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheelasticpropertiesofglassandglass-ceramicmaterials.Specimensofthesematerialspossessspecificmechanicalresonancefrequencieswhicharedefinedbytheelasticmoduli,density,andgeometryofthetestspecimen.Thereforetheelasticpropertiesofamaterialcanbecomputedifthegeometry,density,andmechanicalresonancefrequenciesofasuitabletestspecimenofthatmaterialcanbemeasured.Young'smodulusisdeterminedusingtheresonancefrequencyintheflexuralmodeofvibration.Theshearmodulus,ormodulusofrigidity,isfoundusingtorsionalresonancevibrations.Young'smodulusandshearmodulusareusedtocomputePoisson'sratio,thefactoroflateralcontraction.1.2Allglassandglass-ceramicmaterialsthatareelastic,homogeneous,andisotropicmaybetestedbythistestmethod.Thetestmethodisnotsatisfactoryforspecimensthathavecracksorvoidsthatrepresentinhomogeneitiesinthematerial;neitherisitsatisfactorywhenthesematerialscannotbepreparedinasuitablegeometry.Elasticheremeansthatanapplicationofstresswithintheelasticlimitofthatmaterialmakingupthebodybeingstressedwillcauseaninstantaneousanduniformdeformation,whichwillceaseuponremovalofthestress,withthebodyreturninginstantlytoitsoriginalsizeandshapewithoutanenergyloss.Glassandglass-ceramicmaterialsconformtothisdefinitionwellenoughthatthistestismeaningful.Note1Isotropicmeansthattheelasticpropertiesarethesameinalldirectionsinthematerial.Glassisisotropicandglass-ceramicsareusuallysoonamacroscopicscale,becauseofrandomdistributionandorientationofcrystallites.1.3Acryogeniccabinetandhigh-temperaturefurnacearedescribedformeasuringtheelasticmoduliasafunctionoftemperaturefrom195Cto1200C.1.4Modificationofthetestforuseinqualitycontrolispossible.Arangeofacceptableresonancefrequenciesisdeterminedforapiecewithaparticulargeometryanddensity.Anyspecimenwithafrequencyresponsefallingoutsidethisfrequencyrangeisrejected.Theactualmodulusofeachpieceneednotbedeterminedaslongasthelimitsoftheselectedfrequencyrangeareknowntoincludetheresonancefrequencythatthepiecemustpossessifitsgeometryanddensityarewithinspecifiedtolerances.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
