【摘要】:Coatings,particularlythehighglosscoatingsusedonautomobiles,boats,toys,etc.,aresubjectofawidevarietyofconditions(forexample,wiping,cleaningandexposure)duringmanufactureandservicethatcanmartheirsurface.Theabilityofhighglosscoatingstomaintaintheirappearanceisanimportantproductattribute.Thistestmethodprovidesawaytoestimatetheabilityofhighglosscoatingstoresistmardamage.1.1Thistestmethodcoversproceduresforevaluatingtherelativemarresistanceofaseriesofhighglosscoatingsappliedtoaflat,rigidsurface.Wetrubanddryrubabrasiontestsaredescribed.Tofullycharacterizeacoating''smarresistance,bothtestsshouldberun.Note1-DryabrasionmarresistancecanalsobeevaluatedbyusingTestMethodsD6037.Ifaseriesofveryhighlymarresistantcoatingsisbeingevaluated,TestMethodsD6037willgenerallyprovidethebetterperformancediscriminationthanthedryrubtestdescribedhere.However,iftheequipmentdescribedinTestMethodsD6037isnotavailable,thedryrubtestdescribedinthistestmethodaffordsareasonablealternative.Thedryrubtestisalsousefulforevaluatingcoatingsthatarenothighlymarresistant.1.2Marresistanceisassessedbymeasuringtheglossoftheabradedandunabradedareas.Marresistanceisdirectlyrelatedtothecoating''sabilitytoretainglossinabradedareas.Note2-Themarresistancevaluesobtainedbythistestmethodhavenoabsolutesignificance.Theyshouldonlybeusedtoderiverelativeperformancerankingsfortestpanelsthathavebeenpreparedfromtheseriesofcoatingsthatarecurrentlybeingevaluated.Ifmarresistancevaluesarequotedbetweenlaboratories,itisessentialthatacommonstandardbemeasuredandthatthevaluesbecomparedtothatstandard.Eventhen,thevaluesshouldbeusedwithcaution.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
